Vanitas painting

We used an existing still life painting as the material for a puzzle. However, we couldn’t find one that matched the motif arrangement that served as a clue for the puzzle, so we added some more to it.

When viewed as a puzzle, it was difficult to solve, so we decided to create a painting as the material. In order to properly arrange the motifs and reduce unnaturalness, we chose a vanitas painting as the theme, and created it using Blender.

The advantages of creating 3D images with Blender are that we can optimize the placement of motifs and achieve realistic expressions. The disadvantage is that modeling is difficult, but we have collected free materials for still life models often depicted in vanitas paintings, such as fruit, flowers, cloth, wood, skeletons, and goblets.

Place these on the table material and fine-tune them to match the camera angle, using the grid as a reference.

We had a hard time converting the model and working on the textures and lighting, but we think we was able to create an atmospheric picture.
